What can happen when you add a chrome extension : Risks when adding a chrome extension

Google Chrome is the most popular web browser which is having 60% share all over the web traffic. Since Google Chrome is a property of Internet giants Google , the growth was in a lightning speed.

Adding a Google Chrome extension is very easy, but most of us are not aware about the risks and consequences of doing such. Read about what extensions can do and cannot do:

1.Extensions can’t access your saved passwords since chrome denies any access request from extensions to its inbuilt password manager.

2.Some of them can replace links in any website to change it to their custom link. Clicking it will redirect you to that custom link.

3.Can inject advertisements to every page you visit.(not just regular ads , but some invisible ads which can change any link in any website and direct you to their intended websites)

4.Vendors cannot hide how the extension works.

5.Some of them can access your private information. These are dangerous when you did not give any attention to the permissions which the extension asked while adding them.

However, Google will filter every extension as time moves on. It is suggested to install extensions with high number of users. Installing the newer ones may end up in risky situations since the extension is not yet gathered its reputation.
